Marlborough District Brass Band is Marlborough’s premier musical organisation based in Blenheim, and is involved in provision of music at Marlborough civic functions and special events. Music is promoted through youth and adult teaching as well as regular concerts in ASB Theatre Marlborough and other venues in Blenheim, Picton, Seddon and Havelock.

We operate two bands, the main band (Marlborough District Brass) and our junior / learners band named First Class Brass from our own band rooms at 21 Auckland Street, Blenheim where each band has their own rehearsal space. Rehearsal nights for the main band are Monday and Thursday weekly from 7:30pm until 9:30pm. First Class Brass rehearses on Monday nights from 6:00pm until 7:15pm.

The band is a regular competitor at the New Zealand National Brass Band Championships, and performs at least two major concerts in the ASB Theatre Marlborough annually as well as regular performances at Marlborough 4 Fun's Summer Concert series, Marlborough Wine & Food Festival, ANZAC, Garden Marlborough, the biennial Omaka Air Show, Mistletoe Market, and the Chistmas Parade. In addition the Band still manages to play Christmas carols in suburban Blenheim most nights in December.

MD Kevin Moseley regularly invites talented musicians to play at concerts with the band giving local musicians and audiences the opportunity to play with and listen to some of the best talent available.

Our Musical Director - Mr Kevin Moseley QSM

Kevin joined Marlborough District Brass Band (then Blenheim Municipal Band) in 1963 as a keen seven year old. After working his way through the ranks to principal cornet he took on the role of Musical Director in 1989 at age 32. In the following years Kevin has led the band from B-grade to A-grade in National and trans-Tasman competitions.

Kevin’s persuasive personality and passion for banding and music is known by many throughout the country and his contribution outside of his home band has been enormous, playing with National Youth Bands in 1971, 1972, 1973, and 1974 and with National Bands in 1980, 1990, 1995, 2005, and 2007. Kevin has also trained and conducted youth bands at provincial level and the National Youth Band in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Kevin's enthusiasm and commitment to music isn't just directed at Marlborough District Brass, but to all musicians and especially youth. He is actively part of the Board for the Marlborough Civic Theatre helping to create and maintain a top quality performance venue in Blenheim, teaches music in schools, and can often be found either playing for, or conducting orchestras for Operatic shows and other musical groups.

Kevin’s influence outside of the band rooms includes Musical Director of Blenheim Musical Theatre since 1990, and member of Blenheim South Rotary, in addition to music teaching in Schools, and most significantly heading the team that funded and built the new ASB Theatre Marlborough. He was awarded QSM for services to Banding in 2005.
